THIN AIR OUTFITTERS takes you to the most famous and popular hiking trip in the Andes, the Inca Trail to Machupicchu is almost as famous as the ruins themselves, and the trek is rightly viewed as an attraction in itself rather than merely a mean of getting to machupicchu under your own power. The Inca Empire had an extensive network of roads running the all Incan Empire territory. The classic hike is one of the world’s most popular treks. This 4 day hike walk goes from the highlands of 4,200 m.a.s.l. / 13,900 ft through the cloud forest before arriving at Machupicchu 2,400 m.a.s.l. / 7,800 ft. the camp site is with striking views of the High Andes and dense jungle, the last day hike, after crossing three high passes arrive at Sun Gate (intipunku) where we have the fist view of Machu Picchu.

DETAILED ITINERARY

DAY 1 : CUSCO – HUAYLLABAMBA.

Transfer from your hotel to the trailhead at KLM. 82. (PISQACCUCHO) by private bus or Van to meet the Quechua porters whose transport our camp gear, we just walk carrying light packs (daypack). Hike along the Vilcanota river with a panoramic view of Veronica Mountain 5,900 m.a.s.l. / (19,000 ft.). Explore Llacta Pata Inca city and continue to the CAMPSITE HUAYLLABAMBA village 3,000 m.a.s.l. / 9,850 ft.

DAY 2 : HUAYLLABAMBA – PACAYMAYO.

From Huayllabamba climb to the highest part of our journey, finally after gradual uphill hike we reach Warmiwañuska pass 4,200 m.a.s.l. /. 13,900 ft. where we have the panoramic view of Huayanay mountains and the Vilcabamba Mountain Range. Then descend to the CAMPSITE PACAYMAYO RIVER 3.600 m.a.s.l. / 11,840 ft.

DAY 3 : PACAYMAYO – WIÑAYHUAYNA.

From Pacaymayo climb again to the second pass, after to explore the Runkuraqay ruins 3,784 m.a.s.l. / 12,415 ft. Then we climb the last portion and we reach the RUNKURAQQAY pass 4,000 m.a.s.l. / 13,050 ft. after we descend to explore Sayacmarca ruins then continue to PHUYUPATAMARCA Incan site 3,650 m.a.s.l./ 12,010 ft. with magnificent view of Vilcabamba range with the highest peaks of Salcantay 6,275 m.a.s.l. / 20,580 ft. Pumasillo etc. the Vilcanota river and after to explore Phuyupatamarca descend stairs downhill into the exotic cloud forest to our Last CAMP SITE WIÑAYHUAYNA 2,730 m.a.s.l. / 8,960 ft. Later on explore to Wiñayhuayna Inca Site.

DAY 4 : WIÑAYHUAYNA – MACHUPICCHU – CUSCO.

Early wake up call, easy morning trek to the Gate of the Sun (INTIPUNKU), first view of MACHUPICCHU INCA CITY, descend the last portion of trek, later on guided tour of the “Lost City of the Incas”, after to explore Machupicchu, bus ride to Machupicchu town (AGUAS CALIENTES), late afternoon return to Cusco by train.

• Hiking boots, sneakers and shoes.
• Long pants and shorts.
• Long sleeved shirts and T-shirts.
• Warm clothes sweaters, jacket and fleece.
• Rain gear.
• Camera, films, batteries.
• Flashlight and batteries.
• Insect repellent and sun block.
• Personal toilet items and first aid kit.
• A pocketknife.
• A water bottle.
• A change of underwear.
• Hat or cap to protect from the sun, rain or cold.
• A pack towel.
• Snacks: Energy bars, chocolate, biscuits, dry fruits etc.
• Cash USD and local currency, option for ATM machine machupicchu town.
• Swimsuit (optional hot springs visit).
• Walking sticks with rubber covers (optional).

• Pre-Departure Briefing at your hotel 1 or 2 days before your trek.
• Pick up from hotels all the members, then transfer by Bus or Van to klm.82 - trail head
• Entrance Fee, Inca Trail and Machupicchu.
• A large igloo tent, for each 2 persons.
• Mattress, one per person.

• Single tent, if you prefer to have guaranteed single tent the charge is USD 40.
• Hotel booking service for extra night in Machupicchu town, additional charge depending hotel category.
• Extra porter for your personal equipment, charge is USD 80 (suggested one porter for two persons max weight 18 kilos or 37 pounds all trip)

WE RECOMMEND:

• Participants in this trek should plan at least two or three days acclimation at around 3,400m.a.s.l / 11,100 ft. Cusco altitude.
• To be in good health and shape to be part of this adventure.
• We can arrange for accommodations and Pre or Post tours.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: According to the new Inca Trail regulations, The Machu Picchu Sanctuary authorities allow only 500 people to enter to Inca Trail every day including Cooks, porters, Guides. Each one who enters that day needs to be listed on a permit form, provided by the park authorities in advance. Booking will be only guaranteed if you reconfirm your trip date, providing FULL NAMES, PASSPORT NUMBERS, NATIONALITIES, GENDER, OCCUPATION AND DATE OF BIRTH. (All those information will be how appear in your passport), Students required for Entrance Fee discount the Valid (no Expired) International Student Identity Card (ISIC) and must be under 26 year of age. (We required via e-mail the digital version copy of valid ISIC).
